An adventure story that take place in old Whippany

Wild Adventures of Running Deer takes place in Whippany, NJ during the 1950s and ’60s.

It is a book about wild kids doing crazy things. It’s brought to you by a clique of adventurous, adolescent boys who play in the woods and along a river with frogs and turtles, built forts and rafts, and get into all kinds of mischief. It’s is a testament to a simpler time, when children spent their leisure time in the great outdoors, before all our present-day technologies, conveniences and comforts enticed people to stay inside and at home and before most of the wild woods where young Running Deer played as a child were bulldozed, paved, and developed into ribbons of roads and suburban sprawl. These are true tales, real life adventures, more exciting than fiction, remembered for a lifetime and recorded for posterity. They’re nostalgic, humorous, thought-provoking, written in the first person and narrated in a New Jersey dialect.

The book ends with lessons about nature and how to live with and love nature and help heal the Earth. It is intended to entertain its readers with the wild antics of adventurous children and leave us with a greater appreciation for Mother Earth and all her creations, and for a simpler life and time gone by.

Due to the risqué nature of some stories in the book, it is not recommended for children.
